Skincare used to be simple.

For most of human history, soap and skin balms were made from a small number of ingredients: fats, water, and sometimes herbs.

They were practical.

They were effective.

And they worked with the biology of human skin.

At a bèstia, we do skincare the same way.

We don’t chase trends. We keep things simple.

No fillers.

No fragrances.

No unnecessary extras.

We keep our formulas short and intentional: animal fats for richness, and a few functional companions like jojoba for glide, castor for lather, clays for a refined wash, and zinc oxide for a creamy, soothing feel.

If it doesn’t support texture, performance, or simplicity, it doesn’t go in.

What We Believe

The philosophy behind a bèstia is simple.

Skin doesn’t need complexity to feel good.

Human skin works best with ingredients it recognizes.

That means:

fewer ingredients

traditional fats

thoughtful formulation

No complicated routines.

Just good fats and good skin.

The Name

The name a bèstia comes from Latin and means “of the beast.”

It reflects a simple idea. Humans are animals too.

Our skin evolved with animal fats and natural lipids- not with the long ingredient lists that dominate modern skincare and working with those natural relationships is the foundation of everything we make.

Why Tallow?

Modern skincare often relies on long ingredient lists, plant oils, and synthetic additives.

But human skin didn’t evolve with most of those ingredients.

It evolved with fats.

Tallow (rendered beef fat, and more specifically the suet surrounding the kidneys) happens to be remarkably compatible with human skin.

Its lipid structure closely resembles the oils that make up our own skin barrier, helping it absorb easily and support natural moisture.

So instead of building formulas around dozens of ingredients, we built the brand around one.

Tallow.

Ingredient Sourcing

Good ingredients matter.

The tallow used in a bèstia products comes from grass-fed cattle and is carefully rendered by us, in-house, for skincare use.

We choose simple, high-quality, purposeful ingredients and keep formulas intentionally minimal.

Few ingredients.

Carefully sourced fats.

Nothing unnecessary.

Made in Small Batches

Every soap and balm is made in small batches using traditional, straight-forward methods:

All a bèstia tallow soaps and balms are hand-made in small batches at our personal facility in Admaston, Ontario, Canada.

Our soaps are produced using traditional cold-process methods and allowed to cure properly, the way soap was made before modern manufacturing methods came to be.

This slower process allows careful control over ingredients, curing time, and consistency.
